Updated: Jun 3, 2024

Bemin Secondary College held its Senior School Year 11 & 12 Pathways Information Evening last night (Wednesday, May 29th 2024) - an informative evening for parents and students about the VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) and VCE VM (Vocational Major) pathways.

College Principal Joanne Camozzato and Assistant Principal - Senior School Aaron Dass, along with the senior school team, outlined the opportunities and requirements for senior students to achieve their academic and career goals.

College Vision

The college’s vision emphasises empowering students to achieve their best in learning and well-being, underpinned by creativity, innovation, and collaboration to build a sustainable future.

VCE Pathways

VCE students in Year 11 select six subjects, including compulsory English, with at least one typically being a math subject. In Year 12, students choose five subjects with English remaining mandatory. The program is designed for those comfortable with exams and theory, aiming for an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) and university admission.

VCE Vocational Major (VM)

The VCE VM program integrates academic and vocational education, requiring:

  • Literacy, Numeracy, Personal Development Skills (PDS), and Work Related Skills (WRS)

  • Compulsory VET (Vocational Education and Training) aligned with career pathways

  • Structured Work Learning (SWL) experiences

Choosing Pathways

When selecting subjects, students should consider:

  • Career intentions and prerequisite studies

  • Interests and abilities

  • Balance between academic and personal life

Attendance and Academic Requirements

A minimum of 90% attendance is required, with medical absences considered. Academic success in VCE involves completing 16 units, including three from the English group. VCE VM also requires 16 units, encompassing specific literacy, numeracy, and vocational units, alongside VET credits.

Bemin Secondary College offers robust support through pathway counselling, online resources, and a dedicated team to assist students in navigating their senior years successfully. The school emphasises the importance of balancing academic commitments with personal wellbeing.
